Indonesian Investment Minister Bahlil Lahadalia confirmed that the coordinating minister for maritime affairs and investment is leading talks with Tesla. A representative for the ministry waited to respond to requests for comment.
In August, President Joko Widodo stated in an interview with Bloomberg News that the country is eager for Tesla to produce electric cars in Indonesia, rather than just batteries, and is willing to invest time in convincing CEO Elon Musk to view Indonesia as a valuable manufacturing location.
