In a recent address to mark the Defender of the Fatherland public holiday, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that Russia will continue to pay increased attention to strengthening its nuclear forces.

Mass Deliveries of Zircon Sea-Launched Hypersonic Missiles

Putin also stated that mass deliveries of Zircon sea-launched hypersonic missiles will begin soon. He highlighted that Russia would keep equipping its armed forces with advanced equipment.

Suspension of New START Treaty

These remarks were made two days after Putin announced that Russia would suspend its last remaining arms control agreement with Washington, the New START treaty, which limits each country's deployed nuclear warheads.

Strengthening the Nuclear Triad

As Putin stated, "As before, we will pay increased attention to strengthening the nuclear triad," referring to nuclear missiles based on the land, sea, and air.

Deployment of Sarmat Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles

For the first time, Putin announced that Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missiles, a weapon capable of carrying multiple nuclear warheads, will be deployed this year.

Production and Supplies of Hypersonic Systems

Finally, Putin stated that mass production of air-based hypersonic Kinzhal systems will continue, and mass supplies of sea-based Zircon hypersonic missiles will start soon.
