New Jersey Councilwoman Murdered

Eunice Dwumfour, a 30-year-old councilwoman from Sayreville, New Jersey, was shot and killed on Wednesday evening.

The Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office reported that Dwumfour sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigation Underway

A homicide investigation is underway, and the county prosecutor has asked for tips from anyone with information about Dwumfour's death or access to surveillance footage. The New Jersey State Police are also supporting the ongoing investigation.

Governor's Statement

Governor Phil Murphy released a statement regarding Dwumfour's death, calling her a "committed member of the Borough Council who took her responsibility with the utmost diligence and seriousness." Murphy expressed condolences to Dwumfour's family, friends, colleagues, and the Sayreville community.

Community Reaction

The death of Dwumfour shocked and saddened the Sayreville community. Former colleague Mahesh Chitnis called Dwumfour a "woman full of life." Sayreville Mayor Victoria Kilpatrick also paid tribute to Dwumfour, calling her "a dedicated member of our borough council who was truly committed to serving our residents."
