The investment will allow OpenAI to continue its independent research and develop increasingly safe, useful, and powerful AI. OpenAI and Microsoft have already worked together to build multiple supercomputing systems powered by Azure, which OpenAI uses to train all its models.
Microsoft will increase its investment in these systems to accelerate OpenAI's independent research, with Azure remaining the exclusive cloud provider for all OpenAI workloads across its research, API, and products. OpenAI has partnered with Microsoft to deploy its technology to enable businesses and developers to build on top of GPT, DALL·E, and Codex.
The companies have also worked to build OpenAI's technology into apps like GitHub Copilot and Microsoft Designer.
