Lavrov and Al Saud Discuss OPEC+ Cooperation in Moscow

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov held talks with his Saudi Arabian counterpart, Foreign Minister Faisal Bin Farhan Al Saud, in Moscow. The two discussed multiple topics, including furthering cooperation within OPEC+.

Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Seeks Dialogue Between Russia and Ukraine

Al Saud stated that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia continues to seek dialogue between Russia and Ukraine and is ready to work with all parties to find a peaceful solution. He also noted that the kingdom has already put forward certain initiatives in the past, including the exchange of prisoners.

Recognition for Saudi Arabia in Russian-Ukrainian Prisoner Swap

In response to Al Saud's statement, Lavrov said Saudi Arabia deserves recognition for its part in the recent prisoner swap between Russia and Ukraine.

Grain Deal Extension and Zaporizhzhia NPP

Lavrov also highlighted that only one section of the grain deal export package had been implemented, making the issue of extension complicated. He explained that the issue of demilitarizing the Zaporzhye nuclear power plant (ZNPP) is not tied to the grain deal extension.

Lavrov and Al Saud Agree to Coordinate Efforts Within OPEC+

Lavrov and Al Saud agreed to coordinate their efforts within OPEC+ further. Lavrov stated that all countries participating in the format fulfill their obligations to ensure proper balance and stability in the global energy market.

Kiev Blocks Agreement for Protective Zone Around Zaporizhzhia NPP

Lavrov explained that Kyiv had blocked an agreement that could have been established concerning a protective zone around the Zaporizhzhia NPP. He expressed disappointment in UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres' failure to maintain a neutral position.
