Japanese Stocks Fall at Market Close; Nikkei 225 Drops 0.18%

Japan's stock market closed lower on Wednesday, with losses in the Mining, Chemical, Petroleum & Plastic, and Power sectors leading the decline. The Nikkei 225 index dropped by 0.18% at the close in Tokyo.

Best and Worst Performers

Top performers on the Nikkei 225 included Nippon Sheet Glass Co., Ltd., Credit Saison Co., Ltd., and Tokio Marine Holdings, Inc. Olympus Corp., Taiyo Yuden Co., Ltd., and TOTO Ltd. were the session's worst performers.

On the Tokyo Stock Exchange, falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones, with 2047 declining, 1442 advancing, and 344 ending unchanged. The Nikkei Volatility index decreased by 1.59%, reaching a new 1-month low of 16.10.

Crude Oil and Gold Prices

Crude oil prices declined, with June delivery contracts for WTI and Brent crude dropping by 0.63% and 0.65%, respectively. June Gold Futures contracts also fell by 0.65%.

Currency Movements

USD/JPY and EUR/JPY exchange rates increased by 0.40% and 0.37%, respectively. The US Dollar Index Futures saw a slight rise of 0.05% to 101.50.
