Indian Stock Market Closes Higher on Monday

On Monday, the Indian stock market closed higher, with gains in the Public Sector Undertakings, Power, and Real Estate sectors leading shares higher.

At the close of the National Stock Exchange (NSE), the Nifty 50 index rose 1.17%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index gained 1.20%.

Top Performers on the Nifty 50

The top performers on the Nifty 50 were IndusInd Bank, which rose 4.17% or 47.85 points to trade at 1,195.70 at the close, State Bank of India, which added 4.02% or 23.10 points to end at 597.10, and Hindalco Industries, which was up 2.99% or 12.85 points to 442.40 in late trade.

Worst Performers on the Nifty 50

The worst performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Cipla, which fell 2.02% or 22.65 points to trade at 1,096.50 at the close, Divi's Laboratories, which declined 1.99% or 69.65 points to end at 3,428.80, and Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories, which was down 1.43% or 61.85 points to 4,248.60.

Top Performers on the BSE Sensex 30

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were IndusInd Bank, which rose 3.99% to 1,193.30, State Bank of India, which was up 3.97% to settle at 596.75, and Tata Steel, which gained 2.74% to close at 105.00.

Worst Performers on the BSE Sensex 30

The worst performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories, which was down 1.49% to 4,247.55 in late trade, Nestle India, which lost 1.24% to settle at 19,896.05, and Kotak Mahindra Bank, which was down 0.45% to 1,811.70 at the close.

Overall Market Performance

On the National Stock Exchange, rising stocks outnumbered declining ones by 1703 to 258, with 33 ending unchanged. On the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2770 rose and 736 declined, while 131 ended unchanged.

Volatility and Commodities

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 1.41% to 15.93. Gold futures for February delivery rose 0.60% or 10.70 to $1,806.00 per troy ounce. Crude oil for delivery in February rose 2.40% or 1.86 to hit $79.35 per barrel, while the March Brent oil contract was unchanged at $84.50 per barrel.

Exchange Rates

The USD/INR exchange rate was down 0.15% to 82.65, while the EUR/INR fell 0.07% to 87.80. The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.08% at 104.04.
