Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and Twitter, has recently approached AI researchers to create a new research lab to develop a rival to OpenAI's ChatGPT. According to The Information, sources with direct knowledge of the effort have confirmed the news.

Recruitment of DeepMind AI Researcher for Musk's ChatGPT Rival

One of the AI researchers being recruited by Musk is Igor Babuschkin, who recently left Alphabet's DeepMind AI unit. Although the project is still in its early stages, with no concrete plans to develop specific products, Musk and Babuschkin have discussed assembling a team to pursue AI research.

ChatGPT Draws Attention to Silicon Valley

Musk's creation of a new research lab comes after ChatGPT, a text-based chatbot developed by OpenAI, gained widespread attention in Silicon Valley. Despite co-founding OpenAI with Sam Altman in 2015 as a nonprofit startup, Musk left its board in 2018. He recently referred to the chatbot as "scary good."

Babuschkin Yet to Officially Sign onto Musk's Initiative

Babuschkin has confirmed that he has not officially signed onto the Musk initiative. Neither Musk nor Babuschkin could be reached immediately for comments.
