"Avatar: The Way of Water" is set to overtake "Spider-Man: No Way Home" within days, with the current global box office haul at $1.89 billion, making it the highest-grossing movie of 2022.

Director James Cameron has achieved an incredible feat with Avatar: The Way of Water becoming his third feature film (in a row) to pass $2 billion worldwide, after "Titanic" ($2.2 billion) and the first "Avatar," which remains the biggest movie in history with $2.97 billion. The film is currently the seventh-biggest movie of all time and is expected to surpass "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" $2.06 billion global haul.

"Avatar: The Way of Water" Breaks Even and Secures Future of Franchise

Avatar: The Way of Water is a bona fide hit and has already surpassed its break-even point of $1.4 billion. Filmmaker James Cameron has announced plans to forge ahead with the sequels, while Disney has yet to green-light "Avatar 4" and "Avatar 5 officially." The third film was shot simultaneously with "The Way of Water" and is already in the can.
