The company intends to begin by swapping out the display in the highest-end Apple Watches by the end of next year and eventually bring these displays to other devices, including the iPhone. The screens will upgrade the current OLED standard to a technology called microLED.

Apple's Move to Limit Reliance on Partners

Apple Inc. aims to reduce its reliance on partners such as Samsung Electronics and LG Corp by bringing more components in-house. The company's plans include replacing Broadcom Inc chips from its devices with an in-house design in 2025. This move follows Apple's recent shift to using its line of chips for recent models of its Mac computers, replacing those from Intel Corp.
